There are holes in the thin walls of my 3D print

When making a thin wall, holes or openings may occur in it. This often happens when you print a wall that is only a few times larger than the diameter of the nozzle, or print head. For example, if you try to print a 1mm wall with an extrusion width (the width of the plastic layer that is pressed out) of 0.4mm, your print will experience problems. To prevent this, some settings of your 3D printer software must be adjusted.

  • Adjust the thin wall settings

Does your 3D printer software have a “gap fill” option within the options for the internal thin wall type? Then you can use it to fill the space between the walls. Creates a back-and-forth fill pattern to fill the space between the gaps. Another solution is to change the internal thin wall type option to “Allow single extrusion fill”. This fills the open space in one go by a single extrusion, custom-adjusted to fill the gap perfectly. If you do not have these settings, try varying the extrusion width and the diameter of the inner and outer outlines.
  • Change the extrusion width

Adjusting the extrusion width can also provide the right solution to the problem of holes and gaps in thin walls. For example, if you want to print a wall 1mm wide, you will get a strong wall if you change the extrusion width to 0.5mm. As a result, the walls connect to each other and there will be no openings or holes.

Adjusting any of the above settings will help you create solid walls, without holes and gaps between the walls. This way you can make a sturdy 3D print.
