“Which 3D printer is the best?” Our experts regularly hear this question. However, the answer to that question is not so easy. The ideal printer for you depends entirely on what you will be doing with the printer, what objects you want to print and how much experience you have.

Which 3D printing technique do you choose?

There are roughly two different types of 3D printers:

FDM/FFF printers: 3D printers with filament
SLA/DLP printers: 3D printers with resin

FDM/FFF printers work with filament and the prints you make are built up layer by layer. In the case of an SLA/DLP printer, an object is created by curing polymer resin using a UV laser. These printers are better known as resin printers.

Resin printers are characterised by their detailed prints. If you want to print objects with razor-sharp details, we recommend looking at SLA/DLP printers. If this level of precision isn't necessary, you can compare our FDM/FFF printers.

Popular FDM/FFF 3D printers

We also call FDM/FFF printers the ‘standard 3D printer’. If you are considering this type of printer, it is good to determine what you will eventually do with the printer and how large your 3D objects will be. If you are going tall with your prints, it is wise to look at taller versions. It is worth noting that taller objects will take longer to print. Are you planning to print small or short objects? What makes these FDM/FFF printers so popular?
The above 3D printers are perfect as an entry-level model to learn 3D printing. They are compact printers with a medium-sized printing surface. In addition, thanks to the heated print bed, you can print with different materials. These printers are suitable for PLA filament, but they can also be used in combination with, for example, ABS or PETG filament.

The printers are relatively easy to assemble, because of the open-source principle you can adjust the printer at any time. This way the printer grows with you and you are always assured of the latest updates.

Bestselling SLA/DLP printers

With SLA/DLP printers, or resin 3D printers, you can make complex and detailed prints. This generally makes these printers more expensive than standard FDM/FFF printers. When purchasing a resin printer, it is important to pay attention to the light source: is the print cured by UV-LED, UV-LCD or daylight? There are also significant differences in print speed. They are user-friendly printers with unprecedentedly high resolution. For example, the Anycubic models have a resolution of no less than 2k. That means you can create extremely detailed prints with razor-sharp details. You are also flexible because the printer does not have to be connected to a computer. This 3D printer can be easily operated via the full-colour touchscreen. The Creality printer is popular because of the fact that several types of resin can be used.
